What is PTSD and Trauma

Trauma is not defined by the event. It is defined by what happens inside you in response to it. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop following any experience that overwhelms your capacity to cope whether that is a single incident or a prolonged period of adversity.

Symptoms of PTSD include intrusive memories or flashbacks, hypervigilance, emotional numbing, avoidance of reminders, sleep disturbance, and a persistent sense that the world is no longer safe. Complex trauma arising from repeated, relational, or developmental experiences can present more subtly, often as difficulties with identity, relationships, emotional regulation, or a deep sense of shame.

How we can help

Our practitioners are trained in Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and somatic-informed approaches that recognise the body’s central role in trauma storage and recovery.

Our integrated model which can incorporate yoga therapy and nervous system regulation sessions alongside psychology is particularly well-suited to trauma recovery, which is fundamentally a body-based process as much as a cognitive one.
