Isolation and Loneliness

Loneliness and social isolation are among the most under-acknowledged mental health concerns of our time. Feeling chronically disconnected from others, from community, or from a sense of belonging has measurable effects on both mental and physical health. It can be associated with depression and anxiety, but it also exists as its own distinct experience.

What is Isolation and Loneliness

Loneliness and social isolation are among the most underacknowledged mental health concerns of our time. Feeling chronically disconnected from others, from community, or from a sense of belonging has measurable effects on both mental and physical health. It can be associated with depression and anxiety, but it also exists as its own distinct experience.

Isolation can follow major life transitions (moving cities, relationship breakdown, retirement, parenting), social anxiety, grief, or simply the slow drift that happens when life gets busy and connection falls away. It is not a character flaw. It is often a circumstance.

How we can help

Our psychologists work with clients navigating loneliness through ACT, interpersonal therapy approaches, and values-based work to help rebuild a sense of connection to others and to oneself. Neurowell Hub’s community events and group offerings can also provide a gentle, low-pressure way to begin re-engaging socially, alongside individual therapy.
