Matthew Mitchell

Registered Psychologist

Matthew is a trauma-informed and psychodynamically oriented therapist who takes a holistic approach to mental health. I consider empathic attunement and client self-empowerment to be fundamental to therapeutic success.

Prior to working in clinical settings, I was in the disability and community mental health space.

I have experience working with diverse presentations and am familiar with the treatment of depression; anxiety; grief, OCD, and relationship issues.

I often combine traditional Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with other modalities, including compassionate self-inquiry, empty chair work, and mindfulness.

I am also trained and experienced in delivering Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) for PTSD.

I have an interest in attachment theory and the impacts of early caregiver relationships on adult romantic partner dynamics.

I encourage my clients to move beyond symptom management, towards uncovering the deep-rooted source of their psychological suffering in order to release emotional blockages and shift unconscious belief patterns.

It is my hope to support clients in repairing the relationship with themselves through the process of compassionate self-inquiry.
